How to Grow Psychedelic Mushrooms

To have your own steady and safe supply of magic mushrooms at home, you must learn how to grow psychedelic mushrooms. More people are now growing psilocybin mushrooms because not only is this activity easy but it’s also fun and low-cost.

Usually, people who want to learn how to grow mushrooms start by using a mushroom growing kit. With a complete kit, you can learn how to grow mushrooms from spores and learn how to grow psilocybe cubensis with ease.

What you’ll need to grow your own psychedelic mushrooms

You will need a good quality spore syringe. A spore syringe will have your shrooms spores and these will be sowed into the substrate or growing material. Some users say that they have had a hard time looking for a good spore syringe.

Some reported that they had issues with incorrect strains, contamination of the spores and even syringes that contain only water. So do your research and find a reputable supplier of spore syringes so you won’t encounter these problems. And once you have grown your own batch of mushrooms, you can fill your own syringes with spores.

What species should you choose?

The next thing you must decide on is the strain you want to grow. Decide on a species and the strain that will grow fast and will be hardy enough to grow even by a beginner. A good strain to try is the Psilocybe cubensis B+ or the Golden Teacher, two very popular strains for first-time growers. These strains are also more forgiving than other strains although may not be as potent as other strains.

What you need:

  • A good spore syringe at 10 to 12cc
  • Organic rice flour
  • Vermiculite medium to a fine size
  • Water

When it comes to equipment, you will need 12 half-pint jars, hammer, and nail, measuring cups, strainer, mixing bowl, tin foil, large cooking pot with a tight and heavy lid, clear plastic storage box, perlite, spray bottle, and a small towel.

You also need hygiene supplies like rubbing alcohol, disinfectant, air sanitizer, butane/propane torch, latex gloves, surgical mask and glove box.

Growing cannabis is very easy and straightforward. First, prepare your substrate or growing medium made brown rice flour and vermiculite. Add water and mix well.

Divide this mixture into 12 sterile jars. Add the spores for each jar and wait for the mycelium to grow. You can tell that the mycelium has grown when you spot fine filaments. These structures underpin the growth of your mushrooms.

It will be ready for transfer to a larger, fruiting chamber at around 4 to 5 weeks. All you need to do at this point is to wait for your mushrooms to grow. Once your shrooms are ready, it’s time to harvest them. Your mushrooms will look like small white structures but soon enough, these will grow larger and will soon sprout as pins.

How long does it take to grow shrooms? In just 5 to 12 days, you may now harvest your mushrooms. When your mushrooms are ready, cut these close to the cake and remove. Never wait till these reach the end of their growing cycle because, at this time, the shrooms may start to lose their potency as these become more mature.

The best time to harvest is before the veil breaks. During this time, the shrooms have light and conical caps and are now covered with gills.

The importance of a sterile growing area

Mushrooms will grow at any kind of environment as long as you use a potent spore syringe. The area where you plan to grow should be clean and sterile to prevent the spread of microbes which can affect the health of your shrooms.

Storing your psychedelic mushrooms

Now that you have your mushrooms, you must dry these completely before you can store them. To dry mushrooms, you must initially pre-dry them and this is done by placing the shrooms in a tray and then letting a fan blow air on them. It can take a few hours for pre-drying to complete and the final product are shrooms with a rubbery appearance and texture.

After the pre-drying is the drying stage. There are many ways to dry shrooms completely and usually, placing these in a sealed container with bits of silica gel or bits of rice is important. The silica gel or rice bits will absorb all the moisture in the shrooms.

It can take weeks to months for the drying method is complete and after this, you may now store your dried shrooms in appropriate containers.

You can keep your dried shrooms in a zip-lock bag to preserve their potency and keep these in the fridge or freezer. This will allow your shrooms to last at least a few months. As much as possible, wrap your magic mushrooms in a brown paper bag or in kitchen paper to absorb the moisture. Moisture may affect the quality and the potency of your shrooms and thus these should be wrapped well.

How to grow psychedelic magic mushrooms without spores

You cannot grow magic mushrooms without using spores. Spores are important to mushrooms because these are the genetic components of mushrooms. This is why you need to check the presence of spores inside the spore syringe

New alternatives

There are so many modifications done with the legendary. Most growers use new techniques to improve yields as well as to create shroom strains with the best characteristics and features. Experts say that different mushroom species tend to work with specific substrates to use and in different growing conditions.

One alternative is the monotub, a technique that uses spawning inside a container with coir or coconut fiber, straw, manure, and other nutritious fresh materials.
